If you’ve ever watched hawks soaring in the sky and wondered how you could fly just like them, if you’ve ever seen a modern hang glider soaring high in the air and thought, “That’s fantastic! But I could never do that,” you’re in good company. Most hang glider pilots felt the same way before they learned to fly.
Lookout Mountain Flight Park is the largest and most successful full time hang gliding school and resort in the United States. We teach and certify more hang glider pilots than any other school in the country. We have taught people from ages 12 to folks into their seventies.Our instructors are USHPA (United States Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association) certified and insured and teach hang gliding 7 days a week.
Our training hill facility, located just 10 minutes from our mountain launch and landing zone, is the best in the country. Sudents train amid 55 beautiful acres of pasture land on our 65 foot small hill and our 100 foot big hill. Four wheelers carry students and their gliders back up the hill after each training flight. We’ve been teaching people to fly on these gently sloping training hills since 1978.
Our aerotow tandem program takes off right out of our landing zone. Lookout Mountain perfected the aerotow method of launching hang gliders over 15 years ago. We also designed, created and perfected much of the equipment used everyday in our aerotow operations. We have tandem instructors on staff that have over 10,000 tandem flights logged. Many of our students combine aerotow and hill training to accelerate their learning experience. Whatever training program you choose, your time will be well spent with the best instructors and hang gliding facility in the country.We offer the most comprehensive training facility complete with camping and lodging conveniently located in our 44-acre landing zone. Amenities include; swimming pool, volleyball court, clubhouse, bathhouse, bunkhouse, cabins and shaded pavilions.
