Lookout Mountain Hang Gliding

Family of Flyers

July 25th, 2010

All of the Webster Family recently completed their training with us. That means mom Bobbie, dad Robert, and their kids Carl and Morgan all had their first solo flights. We enjoyed having them and they had a blast! Here’s what they had to say:

All-

I just wanted to send a quick note thanking EVERYONE on the staff for two GREAT weeks of flying. If it weren’t for the efforts and dedication of the entire staff, which included many above and beyond efforts, none of us would have had the opportunity to solo! We truly appreciate your dedication, professionalism, and desire to pass on your love of hang gliding! We cannot wait to get back!

Thanks again for everything!

Well, I came down to camp, hang out with my brother-in-law, and take a few flights off the training hills. I don’t know what happened, It’s all a blur. I took one flight from the small training hill and the next thing I know I’m standing on the mountain looking at the LZ getting ready to launch my first solo flight. What a blast! (Don’t worry, he took more than one training hill flight before he cleared to fly from the mountain! - Editor)

I am super impressed with the level of professionalism of all the instructors as well as everyone I came in contact with at LMFP. You guys obviously love what you do. You made me feel very confident with my skills and progression toward solo from mountain.

I can’t wait to get back down to fly some more. (In fact, that is all I can think about)

Thank You

Very Sincerely,

Curt

From one of our newer pilots…

March 5th, 2010

Dear Matt,

For over 15 years I have dreamed of hang gliding, this winter that dream came true. I started my training in October and my entire experience with LMFP has been more than I ever expected. By the way, I got my first soaring flight this month! I am writing to you to brag on your staff. You really have a super professional staff at your flight park. Everyone I have encountered has been more than friendly and helpful. Gordon Cayce is the greatest instructor! Through his knowledge of our sport and patient encouraging style of instruction I feel like I received the best instruction available. Gordon truly welcomes new pilots and helps us fulfill our dreams of flight. Erik who allowed me to ridge soar on a tandem one evening for about one hour, what a great guy. I just want to say thanks JC, Jen who are always helpful and pleasant every time I visit. There are others like Dan, Lauren, and Rex who played a part in my training and they were all great. Again Matt thanks for what you are doing at LMFP. Please pass this along. I look forward to many more great flights off the Mountain.

Jeff Jones, Horizon 160

Thanks Jeff!

Dear LMFP staff,

Although I have a great flight school with and a very experienced instructor in Europe, the weather and training hill conditions last year did not give me much opportunities to practice enough to get flying. That is why I decided to spend a week at the LMFP early October to give my training hill phase a boost.

I have to say I was a little nervous to come over on my own, but I enjoyed every moment of it! The facilities are excellent (I want those training hills in my backyard), the instructors are great and even the weather gods were good to me. The accommodations in the LZ cabin were very nice and I got to know a lot of interesting people. (Many thanks for the party invitations :-)

After an intensive week of training on the hills and a few tandem flights, I got the relieving words “You’re off the hill”. I didn’t get my first flight of the LMFP launch due to tailwind conditions but yesterday, just a week after my return home, I did my first solo mountain flight here in Europe.

I want to thank everyone I met at the LMFP for their support. I had a great time and took the last steps to my first “real mountain” flight. I am sure that I will return to the LMFP. That launch is still on my list …

Please bring my greetings to everyone, I hope to see you guys back soon!

Kind regards from the other side of the ocean,

Ann

Holly had a great day

Holly Max after.
First, let me say that I never thought I was the “hang gliding” type.  Now, after 15 minutes of flight time with Dan I cannot imagine that being a once in a life time experience.  I began planning for my return trip before I even got back into my car.  I’ve never felt more alive.

Dan is wonderful.  His fantastic sense of humor and vast knowlege of hang gliding made it impossible to be nervous once I met him.  I smiled the entire flight and have the photos to prove it.

I was amazed to see how affordable flight training really is.  It truly is something that everyone can do.   It certainly mixes things up between kids, cleaning house and working.

I will absolutely be back and though I am sure all of your pilots are just as skilled and fantastic as Dan is, I will never forget and always appreciate my first flight with him.

Thanks again…

A Great Birthday Weekend!

September 14th, 2009

First of all, let me start by saying that this was my mom’s and I first time having to do anything with hang gliding. My mom said this was something she had always wanted to do so this year for her 61st birthday, I surprised her with a trip to Lookout Mountain Hang Gliding.

I just wanted to tell you what a fantastic time my mom and I had this weekend with you guys. Everyone was so nice and helpful, even before we got there. Jen took our reservations over the phone back in July and was so nice to deal with.

We stayed at the Hummingbird House and absolutely loved it!! It was such a neat little house and just perfect for my mother and I. It was so amazing staying right there in the landing zone. We so enjoyed sitting out on the deck and watching everyone fly. Shawn was great about checking in on us and even helped us with the satellite after I hit the wong button.

Friday evening, we walked down to the clubhouse just to see what was down there and the gentleman who is the boss on the ground greeted us and took us down to where they were flying from that evening. We got to sit there and talk with the people flying.

On Saturday we took part in the ground school. Dan was such a patient and encouraging teacher. Our tandems were scheduled at 4. Again, Shawn was great to deal with regarding all of our paperwork and getting us ready to fly. My mom can’t remember her pilots name but he did a great job. She wanted a smooth and easy flight and that’s exactly what he gave her. I had the privilege to fly with Rex and he was great! He was so patient and laid back while we were in the air and while I was steering the glider. I loved all of the acrobatic moves he did. By far, this was the most coolest thing I’ve done in my life!!

We also enjoyed the pizza on Saturday night. It was so neat how you offer that. Once we were in that atmosphere, we didn’t want to leave. We had talked about going out to dinner on Saturday but decided to stay and have the pizza. It was so neat to get to talk to the other pilots and learn more about hang gliding.

Everyone we came in contact with was great. It was amazing on how encouraging everyone was, especially to us women. It was just a very positive atmosphere to be in.

We hated to leave there yesterday but we have already started talking about our next trip down there. I have told several people about you guys and what an amazing job you do all the way around. I’ve encouraged them that they need to come and check you guys out.

Looking forward to coming down to be with you again and once again….thank you for giving us such an amazing birthday weekend!

She likes us!

In the words of Donna, one of our students:

Hi! I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for a great time of flying last weekend. My husband and I love to come there (he likes to sit on the deck, drink coffe and watch everyone fly) and I always feel like everyone is cheering me on when I go up. I just started “learning” how to fly and still feel like a dummy but I know more than I did before last weekend!

My husband got tired of hearing me say I wish I could try hangliding just once and got us a weekend there last October. I went up on Saturday with Eric with no ponytail and then went up on Sunday with Eric with a ponytail. Because these two guys were so nice and did not think I was a foolish 53 year old who was too fat and too old to do this I came back readyto learn to fly on my own! (My pictures from that trip are my screen savers!) Last weekend I flew with Anders and the twoErics again. They all made me feel like I had truly caught on and were so supportive. Then when I came back for a second flight on Sunday after moving out of the cabin, the ground crew appeared to be so happy I was getting another flight in.

I cannot wait to come back!

Now I feel like we are coming home to friends when we get there. I have told everyone they need to come there and try this at least once in their life. I am sure there are nice people at the other places but I just cannot imagine them being as special as your guys.

If I had not had the two Erics to fly with in October and all the friendly folks in the office and at the ground launch I probably would have just chalked it up to something I did and left it at that. When my friends ask why I go to Lookout Mountain I tell them it’s because of the great people in the office and the guys you fly with.

Thanks to the Erics for that first flight. Your instructors are something to be proud of. After taking up 25 people that just want a chance to hanglide and then making me feel like I was the first one they had dealt with - that’s Customer Service! I own a company that deals with medical patients all day and I know how valuable good employees are. Your folks are worth their weight in gold.!

Thanks again for the oppoturnity to experience one of the most wonderful things I have ever done in my life!

Thanks Rex!

December 13th, 2008

I was so excited when my husband gave me a Christmas gift of a tandem flight.  I had been talking about it for at least 14 years since our daughter married and lived in Chattanooga.  After moving to Texas then Kansas, and five children later, they moved back to the area - Ringgold, GA  two years ago.

My daughter and three of the grandchildren came with me on November 1 for the flight.  We have enjoyed showing our photos to the family and people at work who call me The Wild Grandma.  I’m 67.

Rex, you were awesome.  I would do it again in a heartbeat.  Remember I’m the one who was visiting from Minnesota and turned down gloves!!  The family had been talking about this, wondering if it was dangerous, if I was scared, etc., so you will enjoy knowing that Matthew (5) saw us land, saw me stand up, and then exclaimed, “She’s alive!!!”

Again, thanks for a fantastic experience.

Sharon

Thank You!

First of all would like to thank the staff for all the help yesterday.  Sometimes doing things when you are in a wheelchair seem almost impossible or to be a big hassel.  But the guys on the ground made things very easy and I was very pleased with everyones help.  The experience was amazing, Ron made the flight something to remember.  Thanks again  I will definitely recomend your company to anyone I talk too, and I will be back.
thanks again,
Scott

Thank you for a great experience!
