Straight from Roger…

The following is an email that we received from Roger. It is good to hear some positive news. The surgery was this past Monday… The news Friday was nothing but positive. I never thought I would look forward to surgery but I do now. What they have found is a tumor in my distal bile duct near where it goes through the pancrease. At this juncture they do not know if it is malignant or benign. However, the surgeon sees no reason for other than a successful outcome because of it’s size (about the size of a peanut) and all indications are that is has not spread. Of course, she may find something once she gets in there that she didn’t see from the MRI, etc. On Monday, I will have surgery to remove my gall bladder, that darned growth, part of my bile duct (that runs from the liver and gall bladder), about a foot of my small intestine, and part of my pancreas. I also told her to take out any bad attitude she may find. She thinks she’ll be able to do it laproscopically. I will be in the hospital for 7-10 days and won’t even be in the intensive care unit. She sees no reason I should not be able to return to whatever I was doing before all this mess started. Unfortunately, I am retired so won’t be able to take advantage of the 6 week work excuse at the end of my hospitalization. I doubt, due to the seriousness of the surgery that I’ll be able to hang glide for the rest of the year but I’ll come up and visit when I can travel. Maybe I can fly the tug, even if I can’t hang glide. Today has ended the worst three weeks of my life. Recovery will be tough but will be totally manageable compared to the mental suffering Debbie and I have endured for the past three weeks. Although I have been in phone contact with some of you, I want to thank the rest of you for honoring my request for no phone contact to either myself or Debbie. I’ll be glad to expand on any details to anyone who wants to know but I want to do it face-to-face over a long period of time, after I am out of the hospital, rather than have numerous phone calls every day. I want to thank you all for all your thoughts and prayers . Roger
