Laura had a Great Time

Laura and CliftonLaura came out for a day of flying this weekend. She started the day on our training hills learning to launch from our small, grassy bunny slopes. There is nothing like running off of the Earth! Then, that afternoon, she flew over Lookout Mountain on a high altitude tandem flight with an instructor. That’s the Introductory Experience and it is awesome.

Here’s what Laura had to say…

“Still got my perma-smile going! Yesterday was totally awesome. Thank you Julie for some wonderful instruction and thanks to Clifton and the whole ground crew for an outstanding tandem flight. If there was a lot of turbulence yesterday, I was too excited to feel it. I am so doing this again! Man, what a ride!”

Cory

Cory is a new pilot here at LMFP and we love having him here. He recently shared the following about his experience learning to fly:

I’ve been a student here since October and have enjoyed every minute of the experience. I’ve received terrific instruction every step of the way and have gone from the bunny hills to launching off the mountain and owning my own glider! Just as good as the experience of learning to hang glide is the amazing community. I felt that I was a part of the community from day one and I can’t wait to continue to learn from and fly with these amazing people!

XC Harness Testimonials

Aileen,

I wanted to extend a HUGE THANK YOU for the most beautiful harness ever made!  I just couldn’t be more stoked.  It fits perfectly, has enough room for my winter flying jackets and it feels great!  Very well done, thank you…  Sam says it’s sexier than anything in the Victoria’s Secret catalog!  You probably didn’t know your harnesses were in THAT realm huh!  My first two landings were perfect…it’s like the harness made it easier over night.   Awesome.  Attached are a couple of pics for you.  Stay in touch and if you EVER come out west we have a place for you to stay.

Take care,

Vickie

No problem for a testimonial for the harness, in fact this one you made for me is the second GT harness I fly and it is such a comfortable harness. I love the many pockets which allow me to bring food, water, cell phone and my wallet while I fly. It is also very comfortable for long flights and is very easy to land with. This is a very important point for me given my shoulder dislocation problem I also looooove that you were able to make custom colors to my glider.

Hope this helps, keep up the good work!

Thanks for coming out Richard!

Richard came and learned to fly with us. He cleared for the mountain in four days. Four days! Ok, he had a little bit of prior experience, but he really knocked it out of the park. And, he feels the same way about us. Richard sent us a message on Facebook – “Just like to thank you all for an awesome time learning to fly with you these last few days. Everyone was fantastic, vey supportive, great instruction, enthused about flying and so helpful. It was a magical experience and I can’t wait to come back soon. Thanks again.”

Richard before his first flight.

A note from Emily!

I had such a good time learning how to hang glide at LMFP that I felt like I had to tell you about my experience and say thanks. The weather was that blend of warm sun and cold frost you only get in late October, and minus the hurricane fronts, it was a prefect time to be there. All my instructors were endlessly encouraging and enthusiastic (ex. Jason cheers for every flight that doesn’t end in death, which adds up to a lot of hooting a lot of mornings.) They went above and beyond to help me get 40 flights so that I could launch off the mountain in the limited time that I had.

You’ve created more than a beautiful flight park and supportive learning environment there at Lookout: what blew me away most was the good-hearted community of people who have gathered there. Form Jen picking me up at the bus station in Chatt, to Adrian and Kelly driving me to the airport when I left, everyone I met was more that generous, making sure I had a warm place to sleep or a ride to town when I needed, and when conditions weren’t right for flying, I was always included in whatever adventure was proposed. Bonfires, pot lucks, climbing and caving and hiking. I was never bored because there was always something going on.

I love hearing everybody’s story of how they got into flying, and how they gave up the stresses and boredom of their previous lives to spend as much time in the sky as humanly possible. You’ve got a tremendous cast of characters there, looking up at the sky and dreaming big. I remain hugely inspired and grateful to have met you all. Until I can return and add my own glider to the colorful flock circling the ridge line, my dreams will be full of flying.

So. The only reason I left was to check out Nicaragua (which if you’re looking to expand internationally, has potential volcanic hills and reliable off shore winds :) ) and I promised Megan some coffee for the office. Might need a grinder. Thank you again for developing the flight park and bringing so many good people to Lookout Mountain. It’s a special place, and part of me wants to give up my plans and just get back there right away. Every time I watch an eagle soar, I’ll be reminded. -Emily
